The Interim Infection Control Guidelines for Pandemic Influenza in Healthcare and Community Settings 2006 was developed several years ago in preparation for an influenza pandemic. Some elements of the document are now out of date. The policy on the use of masks is contained in the current version of the Australian Health Management Plan for Pandemic Influenza (AHMPPI 08).

The guidelines cover treatment in hospitals and the community for both adults and children, but may need to be adapted for use in different situations. They are intended for use in Australia throughout all stages of a pandemic.
